Just in:  W6LJB and W6NCS checked in to the Red Cross, NVIS net last night from their camp on Morro Strand Beach!  A distance of about 175 miles!  They were also heard clearly here in La Honda and exchanged messages, showing that a quick to deploy, wire antenna at modest height can be very effective.

Above: NVIS station ready to deploy.

    The mast is up!

… and the antenna!  This is an off center fed design useable on 7 amateur bands from 6 meters to 80 meters.

One hundred and thirty four feet of wire, end to end.

First contact: KI6PU in Roseville on 7181 kHz (40 meter band.)

I’ve got mast envy! Great to hear you two as clear as can be on 7181 last night. Maybee you might want to set up another contact where ever you are now. Let us know.
