On behalf of Laurel Mitton, we’d like to invite all SC4 ARC members to attend her school’s Quest Expo on Thursday, April 5, from 5:30-8:30pm at Nueva School in San Mateo (directions below).

Nueva’s Quest projects allow all students to investigate and pursue a passion of their choosing. Students use the tenets of design thinking to address local and global issues and touch on all disciplines: science, math, engineering, art, humanities, music, and more.

Laurel’s project “Calling CQ: An Exploration of Amateur Radio” resulted in her obtaining her extra class license, building a single sideband transceiver, antennas, and SWR bridge. She’ll be demonstrating some radio equipment and talking about what she’s learned as a member of ARRL and of course, SC4ARC, as well as promoting field day and the club’s community activities.

Note: Quest is like a science fair on steroids, only it’s more than science. Projects include students who’ve written novels, started their own non-profits, built kayaks, learned to decorate cakes, composed symphonies, learned a heritage art form, designed and built furniture, worked for non-profits, etc. It’s an open format so you can come anytime during the event and stay as long as you find it interesting. Refreshments and (heavy, delicious) hors d’oeuvres will be available on all three floors.

Directions: For those of you already “over the hill”, Nueva’s Bay Meadows campus is located near the junction of Hwy 92 and Hwy 101 (at the old Bay Meadows racetrack, next to the San Mateo Expo Center). Follow the signs “Nueva Event Parking” and attendants will help you find a spot, most likely in the Expo Center parking lot. Address is 131 E. 28th Avenue, San Mateo.
